I cannot wait to understand Chinese herbology the way Dr. Alex Heyne does.
He’s also a YouTube inspiration with content that is rich in detail, easily explained and backed by Western science.
Here he breaks down seven of the most powerful herbs used in Chinese medicine, and explains the Western science that validates the medical value of specific plants, including:
Ginseng (Ren Shen) – for anxiety, depression, insomnia and other nervous system issues
Cinnamon bark and twigs (Rou Gui) – for elevated heart rate, palpitations, anxiety, insomnia and chronic stress
Pinella (Ban Xia) – for acid reflex and indigestion
Astragalus (Huang Qi) – for fatigue and exhaustion, immune system disorders and protection against wintertime coughs and colds
Skullcap (Huang Qin) – for gallbladder issues such as gallstones and acid reflux, as well as acute bacterial infections
Coptis (Huang Lian) – for bacterial and fungal infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, yeast infections, etc.
Ganoderma (Reishi) – which boasts cardio protective qualities and and anti-cancer and anti-diabetic qualities
NOTE: As Dr. Heyne explains in the video: do not self-prescribe these herbs, which are highly concentrated substances that can interfere with Western medications or, when used outside the supervision of a licensed Chinese medicine practitioner, can be toxic.
My aim with this post is to amplify some of the smartest voices in Chinese medicine while driving home a central truth: that ancient, holistic medicine has the power to reverse some of the most debilitating and chronic health conditions that we suffer from today.
I want to be part of the movement that advocates for a gentler medicine that’s accessible to everyone, sustainable and powerful.
To the pursuit of radiant health!
